What does Src have to do with cancer?

**The DNA responsible for the Src protein is known as an ONCOGENE.  Oncogenes are genes that cause a proliferation of cell growth which can lead to tumors.
**A MUTATION can occur in Src which causes it to remain in it's active form permanently.  This can have disastrous effects.
**If the Src protein remains in it's active form at all times, it continually passes signals for cell growth which leads to
TUMORS  and inevitably CANCER
**Scientists are currently hard at work to stop these kinases from mutating and signaling out-of-control cell growth. (Protein Data Bank Molecule of the Month, Goodsell, 2003)
